Chronic Pain Group

Next Sessions:

Next Chronic Pain Group will be in Feb/Mar 2026 due to Maternity Leave.
Welcome to Beatha Holistic Nursing Transforming Pain Through
Mind-Body Connection
At Beatha, we specialize in evidence-based Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) combined with Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy. This innovative approach helps patients understand that chronic pain can be transformed through the power of brain-body connection and emotional awareness.
Our Treatment Philosophy

Chronic pain affects approximately 1 in 4 Canadians. While traditional approaches focus solely on physical symptoms, our comprehensive program addresses both the neurological and emotional aspects of pain. Our team guides patients through a transformative journey of understanding and managing chronic pain through:

-
Neuroplasticity-based interventions
-
Emotional awareness training
-
Mind-body connection exercises
-
Personalized coping strategies
-
Progressive relaxation techniques

Developed by Dr. Howard Schubiner MD, this course explores the relationship between mind and body, revealing how emotions and physical pain are interconnected. The course instructors include Registered Nurses who personally experienced chronic pain and used this treatment themselves. Additionally, a masters level psychotherapist will be present during some sessions.

How Effective is This Treatment
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) have shown promising efficacy in reducing pain and improving other pain-related outcomes.

Understanding Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)

PRT is based on groundbreaking research showing that chronic pain can be transformed by retraining the brain's response to perceived threats. Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) has shown high success rates in treating chronic pain, with a substantial portion of patients reporting elimination or near-elimination of pain, according to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry. Specifically, a study found that 66% of patients reported being pain-free or nearly pain-free after PRT. Through this evidence-based approach, patients learn to:

-
Recognize and challenge negative thought patterns
-
Develop greater body awareness
-
Build resilience to pain triggers
-
Strengthen mind-body communication
-
Enhanced physical functioning
-
Reduce fear responses to pain signals
-
Substantial reduction in pain levels

Understanding Emotional Awareness and Expression

Our emotional therapy component helps patients develop a deeper understanding of how emotions influence pain perception. EAET demonstrates superior pain reduction compared to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in some studies, with a higher percentage of patients achieving clinically significant pain reduction (63% EAET vs 17% CBT).Through guided exercises and practices, participants learn to:

-
Identify connections between stress and pain
-
Identify emotional triggers
-
Express feelings effectively
-
Express previously suppressed emotions
-
Develop healthier communication patterns
-
Build stronger relationships
-
Build emotional resilience
-
Develop healthy coping mechanisms
-
Strengthen self-awareness

EAET complements PRT by helping you understand and address the
emotional roots of your pain.
What Sets These Therapies Apart

Unlike traditional treatments that focus solely on managing symptoms, these therapies target the root causes of chronic pain

They're particularly effective for conditions such as:

-
Fibromyalgia
-
Temporomandibular pain
-
Pelvic pain
-
Back pain
-
Neck and shoulder pain
-
Headaches
-
IBS

While these therapies are relatively new, research shows promising results

Take the First Step Today

Break free from the cycle of chronic pain. Come see for yourself how these innovative therapies can help you achieve lasting relief and improved quality of life.

This treatment is not just for Chronic Pain! EAET and PRT is also evidenced-based to treat most forms of :

-
Back pain, including most disc bulges and degenerative changes (ask for exclusions)
-
Neck pain, including most disc bulges and degenerative changes (ask for exclusions)
-
Other musculoskeletal pain (ask for exclusions)
-
Chronic headaches (ask for exclusions)
-
Migraine (ask for exclusions)
-
IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome (ask for exclusions)
-
Irritable Bladder Syndrome (ask for exclusions)
-
RSI
-
Tennis elbow
-
CRPS (ask for exclusions)
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Many eczema / skin conditions
-
Some arthritic conditions
-
Some endometriosis presentations
-
RSD
-
Some interstitial cystitis presentations
-
Depression
-
Anxiety
-
POTS (Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
-
Other medically unexplained chronic pain
-
Other medically unexplained chronic fatigue

Important Note: The latest medical evidence is showing a poor relationship between degenerative changes or bulging discs, and chronic pain. This program is effective at making the neurological, mental and emotional shifts which are usually required to overcome chronic pain.

These therapies involve exploring past experiences and emotions. While temporary discomfort may occur during treatment, many patients experience significant long-term benefits. We will help guide you through the process safely and supportively.
